Early Times Report
Poonch, Oct 29: Believe it or not the health institutions in border district Poonch are lacking the basic facilities when the needs of the hour is that concerned department should equip them for 24X7 hrs to meet the emergencies in the wake of heavy shelling from across the Line of Control (LoC).
According to the sources in border areas of Poonch district, majority of Sub Centres, Primary Health Centres, Allopathic Dispensaries not only lack basic facilities but also remain closed often.
"Due to continue negligence of concerned authorities the people are forced to visit the District Hospital (DH) Poonch for even treatment for basic ailments, even dressing is not available in majority of Sub Centres, PHCs and EDs when the district Poonch is witnessing heavy shelling and firing from across the Line of Control (LoC) by Pakistan.
Especially during ceasefire violation, many injured people and old men and women get problems in the absence of local staff at these health institutions.
Resentment is brewing among locals over the lackadaisical approach of concerned authorities and said all claims of better health care at door step of people have fallen flat as there is none to take care of poor people who visit to these health centres.
Nawaz Sharief a local in this regard informed Early Times that the health system is much defunct in border areas like Sawajian, Bedar, Sathra, Gali Pindi, Islamabad, Bandichechian, Khari, Karmara, Jhulas, Degwar, Balnoi and many other areas of Mendhar.
He and other locals also added that district officers of health department are negligent and this demands a departmental probe.
He appealed to Health Minister Bali Bhagat and Director Health Jammu to intervene personally and take strong action against the concerned officials. All attempts to get comment from Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Poonch Dr Niaz Ahmed in this regard turned futile as he didn't respond to repeated calls.
