Woman 'burnt' by in-laws, family protests | | | Early Times Reoprt Srinagar, Oct 29: The family members of 26-year-old Pulwama woman, who was allegedly burnt by her in-laws Saturday for bringing less dowry, staged a protest here today, demanding justice to the victim. Shouting slogans, they informed that the woman was married to Adil Gani Lone of Namblabal, Pampore, in September last year. Since then, she was being tortured by her in-laws for bringing less dowry, they alleged. "My sister was subjected to immense torture by her in-laws after we failed to satiate their desire for more dowry. They have ultimately burnt her," said the victim's brother Muhammad Yasin Sofi of Dangerpora, Budgam. Sofi alleged that his sister was also beaten on Thursday night. "We came to know about the incident only after she somehow managed to call us and narrated the incident". He said they could not reach her due to shutdown and informed their second sister to visit her and enquire about her health. "My second sister was allowed to meet the victim. When I also accompanied her to Namblabal, we were greeted with wails and cries of my sister. I saw her burning," he alleged. She was then immediately taken to a nearby hospital where from she was shifted to SMHS hospital in Srinagar where her condition was stated to be critical. The victim's family has appealed police to do justice in the case. |
