Lakhanpur, Oct 29: The excise department has thwarted yet another attempt of a trucker to smuggle willow clefts that were hidden under apple boxes.
A truck (JK02AT/6277) reported at Toll Post, Lakhanpur, and as per the documents produced by its driver, it was loaded with apple boxes consigned by M/s Gusia Fruit Growers, Fruit Market, Shopian, to M/s Durga Trading Co, Fruit Mandi, Bijnour, UP, vide G R No 1006 of October 26. Its physical checking led the department to the recovery of 4,575 willow clefts.
Driver Murad Ali and the seized willow clefts were handed over to the SHO of Lakhanpur police station. "It is worthwhile to mention here that Lakhanpur Toll Post has seized 12,875 willow clefts during the current financial year," official sources said.
The recovery was made by ETO Muzzaffer Hussain Wani, Inspectors -- Rajesh Chander and Mohammad Younis - SI Mohammad Rafi and excise guards -- Tarsem Singh and Sham Lal.
