Poonch, Nov 16: Poonch people have resented the shifting of the Assistant Regional Transport Officer (ARTO) Poonch to city outskirts Banwat-Qazimohra from the main township.
Locals said the new location of ARTO Office is not well connected and is far from the main town which certainly will cause inconvenience to the people.
They alleged previously the Office of the Assistant Regional Transport Officer Poonch was situated in the Poonch town very near to Police Station Poonch where touts might have felt insecure of managing their mal practice and with the shifting of office to city outskirts they will get their evil motives accomplished. According to the sources there is no proper road connectivity, stationary facilities and good atmosphere required for an office, but due to vested interests the some elements the said office has been shifted there.
Apart from the locals, the Driver Union Poonch too has flayed the shifting of office. They said the office has been shifted in a hilly area more than two kilometers away from the Poonch bus stand which is synonym to injustice with the poor drivers.
They allegedly said that the sitting ARTO is only disturbing the common masses, while some alleged that it is well thought conspiracy to shift office far from Police Station.
Anuj Kumar said, he visited the office of ARTO Poonch after two months for some official work but to his surprise there was neither ARTO office nor any notice regarding shifting of office for public information. A driver Maroof said also hummed the same and said while he found the office after hectic efforts and trekked to office situated on hillside.
Locals and drivers' union have appealed to state and concerned authorities to shift said office within municipal limits or near to the bus stand so that people may not feel any difficulties.
Transport Minister and DC Poonch Mohammed Harun Malik said they were not aware of shifting of ARTO Office from present location. However when contacted to get his comment ARTO Jahangir Khan, used unparliamentarily language instead of giving a satisfactorily reply to the ET reporter.
