ET Report

JAMMU, Nov 16: Now that the exams have started in the Valley putting an end to the complete breakdown of academic activity for over four months and hammering the final nail in the coffin of the separatists who threatened to ruin the future of an entire Kashmiri generation, the Political workers and even the MLAs of the ruling party are out seeking credit for making it possible; while the fact is that police worked on a multi-pronged strategy in a sustained manner to ensure that the exams were conducted in the valley despite a prolonged unrest that consumed over 100 lives.
Sources disclose that the police authorities had prepared a comprehensive strategy in coordination with the office of the Chief Minister that included rekindling trust of the parents, students, officials of the education department through community policing and also breaking the communication channels of the separatists who were hell bent to ensure that the Kashmiri students were kept away from schools. "The community policing strategy was prepared and executed directly under the direct supervision of Special DGP SP Dr. Vaid and DGP K Rajendra, who personally monitored police public meets across the valley which were aimed at reassuring the parents of safety and security of their children", disclosed a senior police officer. "Counseling sessions were also organized for the employees of the education department and the JKBOSE who were under social pressure and panic initially in view of the prevailing situation" he added.
It is pertinent to mention here that the Kashmiri civil society has traditionally stood for academic pursuit and emphasized upon quality education for their children. Many a parents had shifted their children to the tutorials in Jammu in view of the prolonged unrest and shutdown of the schools. "The reiteration and commitment of the parents towards education of their wards helped police in convincing them to allow their children to take exams. While section 144 was imposed around examination centers, special arrangements were made for the parents to stay near the examination hall for the reassurance of the safety of their children" the officer added.
Police also laid special emphasis on sensitizing the invigitation staff and other staff whose services were imperative in conduct of exams and also cracked the communication channels of the separatists by various strategic means.
Interestingly, 100 percent admit cards were collected by the candidates ahead of the scheduled exams and over 99 percent students are currently taking the exams as the final blow to the nefarious designs of the separatists.
With exams for both classes X and XII getting underway, several MLAs of the ruling party and political workers are bee lining outside CM's public office, seeking credit for the success.
