| Post officials puncture Modi's initiative of e-governance | | Employees unaware of e-payment services | | Vinod Sharma

JAMMU, Nov 16: Time and again Prime Minister Narendera Modi has emphasized on government departments to switch over to e-governance but officials posted in various posts offices in Jammu district are unaware about the e-payment services.
Employees posted at Gandhi Nagar and Miran Sahib Post offices and even head of the department in Srinagar seem to be confused about the e-payment services through e-challan, despite the fact that department had started the services in 14,000 posts offices across country, including Jammu and Kashmir after BJP led government took reins of country.
A student Devinder Kumar informed Early Times that he had gone to Miran Sahib Post office for submission of examination fee for entrance of Ph.D in Central University of Himachal Pradesh. "I was surprised to find that nearly half a dozen employees present in the Post office expressed ignorance about the e-payment service", Devinder Kumar said, adding that after which he visited Head Post Office Gandhi Nagar and same answer was given by employees present there.
The employees at Gandhi Nagar Post office claimed that they had not got any notification in this regard. "I objected to their claims. I even asked them that if e-payment service would not be available then why the Central University of Himachal Pradesh had given only option of e-payment challan from Post Offices and not even payment challan from any Bank in the Ph.D entrance examination form", Devinder said.
He said that the Himachal Pradesh University had mentioned Miran Sahib Post office and Gandhi Nagar post office in the list of post offices where e-payment could be made through the challan. "I later approached Helpdesk of Central University of Himachal Pradesh, who informed that if the option of Post offices is also given in the e-challan payment option, then it simply means that the Post office officials are unaware of the matter", Devinder said.
Pertinently, e-payment is a new service of Indian post in which businessmen and organizations are to collect their bills or other payment through Post Office network. It also offers collection of money (telephone bills, electricity bills, examination fee, taxes, university fee, school fee, etc ). It is simple and convenient solution in the form of e-payment but staff is totally unaware, which is very unfortunate, an official said.
Surprisingly, an official posted in Udhampur Post office claimed that e-challan payment service was available but officials in Miran Sahib Post office claimed that no such service was available.
Moreover, Post Office Jammu officials claimed that in some post offices services were available and in some post offices it was not. She further claimed that in Gandhi Nagar post office, service was available but officials in Gandhi Nagar couldn't be contacted for comments. |
