BJP rant of Ek-Vidhan, Ek Nishan exposed | Failure to waive off Lakhanpur toll | | Akshay Azad
Early Times Report Jammu, Nov 16: The Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP), whose election manifesto since last many decades remained incomplete without their resolve to revoke Article-370 and ensure Ek-Vidhan, Ek-Nishan but its leaders and ministers in coalition government are totally silent on collection of toll-tax at Lakhanpur toll plaza, which is a manifestation of special status of state. So far cabinet ministers of BJP, in coalition government have remained tightlipped over the issue and have failed to get issued a government notification waiving off toll-tax at Lakhanpur from private vehicles, on analogy of National Highways toll plazas. Moreover, indecisive government, over the issue has made Excise department employees' posted in Lakhanpur toll plaza as scapegoats, who have to face public anger, time and again. "It signals towards double speak of BJP, whose leaders before coming to power, had been reiterating of revocation of Article-370-granting special status to Jammu and Kashmir-but these leaders have deliberately adopted a silence over a minor issue of waiving off toll tax", Rajeev Singh of Kathua asserted, adding that these so called firebrand leaders of BJP were only paper tigers and were seemingly non-serious about any change in status besides their slogan of Ek-Vidhan Ek-Nishan was merely a slogan and nothing else. "It is a minor issue for BJP leaders, who are also part of coalition government but their silence only portends towards fact that they were interested to attain power only", he said, adding, "BJP can get get the toll tax exempted within few hours but so far no such decision has been taken by BJP, mirroring difference between precept and practice of these leaders". Sanjay Sharma said that the state government must come clear on the issue and the employees of Excise and Commercial Tax department, must not be made scapegoat at Lakhanpur toll plaza. Sources in Excise department informed Early Times that employees posted in Lakhanpur were undergoing very tough time as every second private vehicle owner has been objecting the collection of toll plaza, giving excuse of announcement by Union government. "There is no notification from government side on the issue of collecting toll from private vehicles. It is toll of state government and it does not come under the Union government act. We have been giving these excuses to all the vehicle owners, who object but many times, the arguments turned hot", an employee said, adding that they were simply employees and their duty was to collect toll and if government would issue any notification waiving off the toll on private vehicles, then they would stop collecting it. Pertinently, after demonetization announcement by Union government, the Union Transport Ministry had also announced exemption of toll tax on all toll plazas on national highways across country but Lakhanpur toll plaza is still collecting toll under State Rules at Lakhanpur, creating inconvenience for Excise employees and general public. |
