| KVK, Reasi organises awareness campaign | | | Early Times Report
reasi, Nov 16: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Reasi today organized campaign on seed treatment in wheat at KVK, Reasi campus in which large number of farmers from the surrounding villages actively participated.
According to press release Dr. Banarsi Lal, Scientist and Head of KVK, Reasi started the programme with the warm welcome of the participants. He gave a detail view of the seed treatment in wheat. He informed the farmers that loose smut of wheat is a destructive disease which badly infect the wheat crop.
He elaborated that this disease is caused by a smut fungus called Ustilago tritici which causes huge loss in the wheat crop leading to great loss in the farmers. He aware the farmers that the diseased plants are indistinguishable from the healthy plants before heading.
He narrated that the fungus destroys the wheat ears completely and convert them into black powdery mass consisting of spores. Dr. Banarsi aware the farmers that this fungus can be controlled by treating the wheat seed before sowing. He elaborated the methodology for the seed treatment.
In this programme certain quarries were asked by the farmers which KVK scientist answered in a satisfactorily way. Dr. Banarsi Lal concluded the programme with the vote of thanks. |
