Massive presence of class 12 students in exam centres a slap on separatists
11/17/2016 12:17:59 AM
The separatists and militants have
lost their first round against the
PDP led Government. And the way 95 per cent students registered for class 12 examination appeared in the examination indicating that the hold of militants and separatists continues to dwindle in the Kashmir valley. The Government was shaky about its decision but it proved right when 95 per cent students appeared on the first day for the examination. Over 484 centres had been set up for allowing 48,000 students registered for the examination to answer the questions. The Government had made it clear that it has given choice to the students either to appear in November session or in March session. But the students opting for November session had been given the choice of 50 per cent cut in the syllabus. This means that the question papers had to be set from the 50 per cent reduced syllabus.
Around 95% of students registered appeared on the day one of the annual examination of Class 12th in Kashmir amid unrest and a call for shutdown by separatists. JK Board of School Education (JKBOSE) official said of 31,964 students who registered for the exam, 30,213 appeared in 484 centres that were highly guarded. All volatile districts of south and central Kashmir witnessed more than 90% attendance despite several students' associations opposing the government move to hold the examination in November. Around 35 schools have been burnt down in the Valley in the past three months."We could not have afforded to sit for examination next year. We have to prepare for professional courses from January and appear for entrance tests from May," said a number of students. Kashmir has been reeling under unrest and the call for shutdown by separatists for more than four months now. There were demands to postpone the examinations to next year as "students could not prepare for the examination due to turmoil". But massive presence and participation in the examination indicates clearly that the youth in Kashmir are keen to join professional colleges and for that each candidate had to bank on the pass percentage. Though transport was largely hit due to the call for shutdown, many pooled cars to ferry students to the exam centres. A large number of anxious parents were seen waiting outside the centres. Meanwhile, minor disruptions were reported in the Valley. An attempt was made to set ablaze the Government High School Dasan, Hardupanzo zone, in Central Kashmir's Budgam district on Sunday night. Eight exam centres were relocated in Budgam and Pulwama districts. Unidentified persons hurled rocks at a building where Class 12th students were taking their test in Budgam even as security forces resorted to tear gas shelling. Separatists and militants tried hard to wreck the examination so that the youth could join militant oufits. But separatists and militants were shocked by the, massive percentage of students present in the examination centres. And this event could have far reaching impact on militancy because students and their parents are keen to ignore the calls for shutdown given by?
