Leh freezes at minus 9.4 degree, chill continues in Kashmir

Srinagar, Nov 16: Majority of the water bodies were frozen in Leh, where people experienced coldest night of the season after temp dipped and settled at minus 9.4 degree.
Meanwhile, due to dry weather Kashmir continued to reel under chilly conditions though sun was playing hide and seek with icy cold winds.
A Met Department spokesperson here today said weather will remain dry though sky would be cloudy in Jammu and Kashmir during the next four days which could resulting in further dip in the temperature.
Majority of the water bodies were frozen in Leh, which witnessed a considerable dip in the night temperature after mercury dropped and settled at minus 9.4 degree, against minus 8.4 degree recorded yesterday. This is the coldest night temperature of the season recorded so far in the region.
The border town of Kargil also witnessed a dipped in the night temperature. Against minus 6.4 degree night temperature recorded yesterday, it was minus 6.8 degree.
World famous health resort of Pahalgam also witnessed a dip in the night temperature as mercury plunged and settled at minus 4.2 degree, against minus 4 degree recorded yesterday.
Even though there was a slight improvement in the night temperature in the summer capital, Srinagar, it was still below freezing point.
Against minus 2.3 degree recorded yesterday, the temperature was minus 1.7 degree.
People woke up to a cloudy sky in Srinagar and elsewhere in the valley, where woolen and warm cloths besides traditional pheran are being used to keep warm. Meanwhile, electronic gadgets and gas bukharis, besides traditional kangri (fire pot) were being used for heating purpose.
He said sky will be mainly clear sky in Srinagar, where minimum temperatures will be around 15 degree and minus 2 degree respectively yesterday.
Meanwhile, maximum and minimum temperatures in Leh will be around 9 degree and minus 8 degree respectively yesterday, when skies will be clear.
