SWD fails to increase benefits despite order

POONCH, Nov 16: Department of Social welafer has failed to increase the pension benefits of physically challenged and others despite a government order that increased pension benefits were inforce from April 2016.
Sources said that government has increased the pension benefits of physically challenged , old age pensioners and other falling under the category from April 2016 to Rs 1000 per month while as presently the benificiaries get oonly Rs 300-Rs 400 per month for the last quite sometime which is a megare amount. Sources said the social welfare department has failed to make awareness among the benificaries regarding the scheme as most of the people were unaware about the order of increment.
The number of pensioners is above twenty thousand in district which was mostly from Mandi, Surankote, Mendhar and Haveli , they added.
Sources said that the benificaries have to give Aadhar numbers and bank account number at their respective tehsils to get online benefits from the department.
While talking to Early Times district Social Welfare officer Poonch , Naima Bhatti said that there were no Funds available with the department . As of now the grants for 2 months or so have been released, we will reach to people and start providing them enhanced benefits as per government order after completing the formalities required in the matter.
Meanwhile, Chairman Mendhar Youth Club, advocate Nadeem rafiq Hussain appealed to the concerned minister to intervene into the matter personally and help the pensioners to provide increased benefits at earliest, Khan added.
