Early Times Report

Kathua, Nov 16: Despite Supreme court's directions further re-directed by state government to control on encroachment of state land, many non state subjects (outsiders) have allegedly encroached Irrigation land along National Highway opposite to Kharote Morh and constructed a religious place for eye-wash.
Another structure has also been built on state land at Chann Gran/Badala opposite IR-19 Battalion, but the district authorities are behaving like mute spectators reasons better known to them.
According to sources, a huge spread of Government land has been encroached in entire district by constructing religious places (of minority and majority community as well) whereas local land mafia is allegedly backing these grabbers with an ulterior aim to encroach open land under Municipal Committee limits.
District administration and concerned Irrigation/revenue department instead of implementing directions of Apex Court, allegedly are acting like mute spectator that has encouraged these outsiders to construct buildings on irrigation land which costs in crores.
It is reported that few persons from outsider were eyeing on the land and wanted to have property in J&K which was not possible in presence of Art 370 in J&k then they took the support of devotion and grabbed several kanals land by constructing religious places.
Mohan Lal, a local said, "People have cautioned grabbers but their voice fell to deaf ears as concerned department appears to have been in deep slumber." He added if the encroachment could not be controlled in time, land grabbers might encroach nearby rest of open state land worth crores.
Humming similar tones Sushil Singh, another local said, "District administration has to take action before it is too late. He said that locals are against such types of encroachments and also threatened to hold an agitation against encroachment if government remains silent.
Pertinently, DDC Kathua has directed Revenue Department to mark the land and find out existing position of the land. "Revenue department through its report confirmed that the land at Kharote belongs to Irrigation department and Badala land comes under jurisdiction of State government, sources added.
They said that due directions were been passed to EO Municipal Council Kathua, Irrigation department but no action has been taken against encroachers till date.
