SOG man killed in Sopore encounter
Militants manage to escape

Sopore, Nov 16: One personnel of special operation group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police was killed today in an encounter at Zaloora area of Sopore town in Baramulla district of north Kashmir. today.
A senior police official said that, " on a tip of information about the presence of 3-4 militants in Zaloora forests in Sopore town, the whole area was cordoned off by the security forces on Tuesday late evening.
A search operation was launched today morning by a joint team of Army's 27 Rashtriya Rifles (RR), Special Operation Group Srinagar and Sopore after receiving specific inputs about the presence of militants in the area, the official said.
The official told Early Times that, the bidding militants fired upon security forces, triggered an encounter in which one police personnel of SOG was killed.
However the reliable sources said that, the encounter started in the wee hours on Wednesday morning which was continued till 9am, after which the search operation was launched in the whole area. The holed up militants fired several gun shots upon the security forces, after which there was a heavy exchange of gun fire from both the sides, in the initial gun fire two SOG personnel's were injured, the sources said.
Sources further said that, " The SOG personnel Mohammad Shafi Dar of Kulgam Qazigund was seriously injured who was shifted to Sopore hospital for advanced treatment, where from he was referred to Drugmulla Army hospital and later he was moved to Army hospital Badamibagh Srinagar where he succumbed to his injures, the sources informed.
Sources said that, the militants broke the cordon and escaped from the encounter spot, after which the search operation was launched in the Marwal forests of Zaloora area to nab the hiding militants.
Meanwhile Superintendent of Police (SP) Sopore, Harmeet singh told early times that, on specific information about the presence of 3-4 militants in Zaloora area, yesterday late evening SOG Srinagar, Sopore and Army had cordoned off the area.
The militants fired on security forces in which one police Jawan was martyred after which the militants escaped from the site of encounter, the SP said.
