Early Times Report Srinagar, Nov 30: Even as the government has made 'Aadhaar' mandatory throughout the country, people in Kashmir are running from pillar to post to get their cards issued as the same have purportedly been misplaced in General Post Office (GPO) here. Lamenting over the shoddy approach of postal authorities for leaving them in the lurch, people whose Aadhaar cards are lost in post office demanded inquiry into the issue. "Aadhaar card is mandatory; a common person cannot even travel in his home country without it, but it is quite unfortunate that cards are vanishing in thin air, how could authorities be so irresponsible that a card which has to be delivered to the addressee lost," said Amir Rasool. He claimed that he went to General Post Office situated at The Bund Residency Road, to receive his uncle's card but shocked the moment when one of the employees informed him that the card is lost. "This is height of irresponsibility, now is it possible or is there any facility that a common man could again appear for biometrics, no, then what shall one do in such circumstances," said Amir who demanded that an inquiry be initiated into the serious issue. Sarwar Hussain Buchh, another claimant said that he too was informed that his brother-in-law's card is misplaced "I get furious and thought to bang upon the person who told me that card is lost, is there any system in post offices". He said that he has been frequently visiting post office to know as to whether the card is found or not but every time gets answer in 'No'. "Now the employees there are hardly responding to customer's queries, there are many people like me who have running from pillar to post to get their Aadhaar cards," he added. A source in General Post Office (GPO) while admitting the error said "this is not employees mistake, these things do happen here, sometimes parcels are misplaced, and this only happens when things are moved from one place to another. People who have lost their cards however refused to buy this theory saying "people have been taken for a ride, how they could be so irresponsible, we appeal the Post Master General to kindly intervene in the matter and hold an inquiry into this issue". |
