Advertisements of Akrosh Rally pictures: Congress reduce itself to political laughing stock | | | Abodh Sharma Early Times Report JAMMU, Nov 30: Struggling hard to gain political center stage in J&K which it once occupied, Congress made itself a laughing stock the previous day when it prepared a collage of its failed Akrosh Yatra against the demonetization and got it published in few dailies as commercial advertisement. "There were not even hundred people in the Akrosh rally and only the party workers and leaders were falling over each other for photo opportunity" said an eye witness who was taken aback by the hooliganism of the congress workers at Satwari Chowk. "Handful of people were trying to hold the busiest traffic junction of the city hostage just to project their rally as successful, but the fact was that the Congress could not muster the support of even a few people" he added. By issuing commercial advertisement carved out of the collage of pictures of disastrous Akrosh Rally, the party has itself accepted its failure. "Knowing fully well that the media was likely to ignore the hyped Akrosh Rally that failed to gain any significance, the party chose to issue commercial advertisement of carefully selected pictures of its leaders to project the rally as huge success" said a journo who was deputed to cover the rally. Meanwhile, the political watchers are looking at this episode as an indication of continuous relegation of the party in the state, which is already beleaguered by bitter factionalism. The appointment of the incumbent state president failed to sink differences that existed between Soz and Azad factions of the party and the party continued to be polarized bitterly between the two camps. This factionalism resulted in a decisive loss to the party in the Chenab Valley, which was once the throttlehold of the party. The involvement of the two prominent Congress leaders who were Ministers in the previous dispensation in serious cases of corruption, encroachment of Government land, financial irregularities and others have further eroded the credibility and reputation of the party. Incidentally, these Ministers had been projecting themselves as the champions of Jammu's cause in the Kashmir dominated polity of the state, but exposition of their real faces has caused serious dent to the party. Political watchers believe that congress shall have to understand the pulse of the electorate and think out of the box, or else it might lose forever, the position of political inevitability that it enjoyed throughout the democratic history of the state and lost to BJP in the last elections. |
