Jammu, Nov 30 : First additional sessions judge, Jammu, M A Chowdhary has awarded five years imprisonment to a youth for impersonating his brother to help him get a job in police department. Baljeet Singh, son of Chhattar Singh of Chak Bhagwana (at present Devipur, Akhnoor), had impersonated his brother Sanjeev Singh during the recruitment of cops. According to the prosecution case, Baljeet had impersonated as his brother Sanjeev during a special drive conducted for the recruitment of constables on December 8, 2007 at Devipur. Sanjeev had found place in the selection list and his name figured at serial No 32. The offences under sections 419 and 468 of RPC for forgery and impersonation were fully proved against Baljeet Singh, but offences under sections 420 and 467 of RPC were not proved. Since, it was proved that he had by impersonation and forgery tried to obtain the job of a cop for his brother Sanjeev, he was convicted by the court vide its November 29, 2016 judgment. He was awarded imprisonment for one year for the commission of offence punishable under section 419 of RPC. He was further sentenced to undergo an imprisonment of four years for the commission of offence punishable under section 468 of RPC. The court clarified that both the sentences shall run concurrently. He was also fined Rs 50,000. (JNF) |
