3 militants, civilian killed in Arwani Gunfight | | | Saahil Suhail
Anantnag, Dec 8: Security forces are believed to have eliminated at least three local militants in the ongoing gunfight at Arwani Hassanpora village of South Kashmir's Bijbehara area. Reports said that a civilian who was hit by a stray bullet near the encounter site, also succumbed to his Injuries. He was identified as Arif Ahmad Shah S/O Mohammad Khalil Shah R/O Gund Baba, Sangam. Sources told Early Times that a gunfight had raged at Hussanpora village of Arwani after security forces had launched a search and cordon operation based on information about the presence of militants. The forces, during the search operation, were fired upon by militants hiding in a residential house at Hussanpora, ensuing gunfight between two sides. Heavy exchange of fire continued between two sides intermittently since last evening and in the ensuing gunbattle. The gunfight continued till 6:30Pm this evening and forces believed to have killed all the three militants. Earlier, there were reports that Lashkar-e-Toiba Divisional Commander and most-wanted militant, Abu Dujana, could be trapped inside the house from where militants were firing but Police today termed it a rumour. Sources said that Body of one militant, Rahil Amim, has been recovered by troops. Authorities, in view of the reports that Dujana could be among trapped militants, snapped the mobile services in twin south Kashmir districts including Kulgam and Anantnag. Sources said it was done to prevent circulation of information regarding the encounter and mobilisation of masses. However, despite the snapping of mobile services, clashes between locals and security forces erupted at Hussanpora, Bijbehara, Vesoo and Newa in south Kashmir. During clashes dozens sustained pellet injuries. Sources said the operation at Hussanpora has not been called off yet. |
