Without salary for 3 yrs, casual labourers threaten suicide | | | Early Times Report
Rajouri, Dec 8: Pushed to starvation due to apathy of the Irrigation and Flood Control Department engineers in Nowshehra Division here, who denied them salary for three long years, around one dozen casual laborers have threatened to commit suicide. A delegation of the aggrieved daily-wagers working with department said for over 30 months they have been denied salary despite working relentlessly. "We have no money to feed our families and given so long delay in release of wages, even shopkeepers have stopped giving us essentials on credit. Our families are starving and children are left without education," the aggrieved said. They said even though the matter was brought into the notice of the concerned engineers "they paid no heed to the genuine demands of the poor working class." The poor laborers said they were being left with no options but to commit suicide and that onus of such action will lie on the government. A delegation comprising Keval Kirshen, Dev Raj, Rahday Sham and Kuldeep Raj said they are helpless to see their families die of starvation. "What can we do now?" The labourers have appealed Governor NN Vohra, Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti and Deputy Chief Minister Dr Nirmal Singh to personally look into the matter. |
