Pertinently, Jammu and Kashmir has the highest number of the health institutes rural and urban in the country. And ten, government hospitals were selected for accreditation viz Shri Maharaja Ghulab Singh (SMGS) Hospital and, District Hospitals of Baramulla, Kathua, Udhampur and Anantnag and others. As per website of NABH, no of the government runs hospital is accredited in the state by the NABH so far causing the state's health institutes, patients and doctors have deprived of the benefits of accredited hospitals. "Accreditation benefits all stakeholders especially patients are the biggest beneficiary in the high quality of care and patient safety. The patients get services by credential medical staff. Rights of patients are respected and protected. Patient satisfaction is regularly evaluated. The staff in the accredited healthcare organization, are the satisfied lot as it provides for continuous learning, good working environment, leadership and above all ownership of clinical processes. It also provides access to reliable and certified information on facilities, infrastructure and level of care, "an official briefed about accreditation. He told that successive government failed to meet the level set by the NABH because they never bother to get accreditation for their health institution. One side the government claims about the new building, infrastructure, upgradation and even comparison between other states was also held but another side, when it comes to quality checks the buildings do not meet set requirements. He also added that in 2010, the process for accreditation government hospitals was initiated with the release of the first installment of the funds by the Health and Medical Education Department to Quality Council of India. But the same was left midway and even second installment of funds was released."Many years have passed by and no one has asked what happened to the funds," sources said, adding that owing to lack of interest no efforts were made to reach any conclusion. |
