Govt forgets to inform people about Pulse Polio Sunday

Early Times Report

Jammu, Mar 11: The non- serious approach of the government in ensuring children's health in the state could be gauged by the fact that it forgot to make people aware of the Pulse Polio immunisation ahead of it, sending parents across the state into tizzy.
It was though the whatsapp and social media early Sunday morning that people across the state came to know that it is the Pulse polio day. Shocked and anxious, the parents in hordes hurriedly started rushing towards the Polio booths to get their kids immunised.
However, there was disgruntlement all across against the health department over not making the announcement via Radio and television.
Questions were being raised over the non- serious approach of the health program. "The campaign has huge advertisement component to make people aware of the dates," why didn't the department issue advertisements through radio/Tv?" asked an elderly person who was lined in queue top get his grandchild immunised. There were others who too were disgruntled over the health department's non- serious approach.
Furthermore, according to reports, people in Sunday morning came to know about the Pulse Polio Day through word of mouth and many dismissed the reports as mere rumours. "I thought this must be a rumour because there was no announcement made in this regard by the health department. I sent a person to a nearby school to check whether any polio booth was made available there. I later came to know that it was actually a pulse polio day. What a shame for the government that it couldn't inform people prior to it," said Aamir Mukhtar, a resident.
On Polio booths, the disgruntlement was evident. The people were questioning the officials present inside the polio booths about the reasons that the people weren't informed prior to it. "What would happen if some parent doesn't get information and misses it. There should be high level probe into this grave slip on part of the health department," said Muneer Ahmad, a parent.
