Jammu deprived of Information Commissioner | SIC has lost its legality: Ex CIC | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Mar 20: While expressing serious concern about non appointment of Information Commissioner (IC) to look after RTI appeals and complaints from Jammu region , former Chief Information Commissioner (CIC) G R Sufi has said that Jammu people are being deprived of an Information Commissioner (IC) and thus State Information Commission (SIC) as on date is an illegal institution. Sufi said this while speaking at an RTI seminar on Monday and quoted section 12 (2) of J&K RTI Act 2009. Sufi said that section 12 (2) of State RT Act clearly says that State Information Commission (SIC) shall consist of one State Chief Information Commissioner (CIC) and two Information Commissioners (ICs). Details available with Early Times reveal that former Chief Information Commissioner said that in absence of one Information Commissioner (IC) , the legality of SIC was questionable. "People of Jammu are being deprived of an Information Commissioner (IC) who is supposed to take up appeals and complaints pertaining to Jammu region, but right now Srinagar based Information Commissioner (IC) Mohammad Ashraf Mir has to shuttle between Jammu & Srinagar to hear these cases as Chief Information Commissioner (CIC) Khurshid Ganai looks after cases pertaining to mostly move and civil secretariat offices. Govt must immediately appoint one more Information Commissioner so that SIC becomes a legal entity" Sufi said. As reported already in order to commemorate 9 years of J&K RTI Act 2009, Jammu & Kashmir RTI Movement in association with Abdul Ahad Azad memorial Degree College Bemina organized a seminar titled 9 years of RTI in J&K on Monday at Srinagar. |
