If vote of no-confidence is accepted it may help Modi to win next poll
3/20/2018 11:45:37 PM
Despite the claim of the BJP led NDA that it may sail through the turbulent water caused by the vote of no-confidence moved against Modi led Government by the TDP and the YSR congress, current indications do not favour Modi. Well the motion of no-confidence could not be taken up for discussion in the light of constant disturbances caused by some members of the Lok Sabha. Well the numbers do not favour the Modi led Government and if Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, wins the trust vote it could be termed as a miracle because the numerical strength of the entire opposition could dethrone the Modi led Government. First of all for the motion of no-confidence to get moved in the House it requires the support of 50 MPS without that requisite support the motion cannot be tabled. Well the Congress has 48 members and it can generate support of 50 MPs for tabling the motion of no-confidence against Modi led Government. The Congress party, the CPI (M), the AIADMK, the AIMIM and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) will support a no-trust motion against the BJP-led NDA government; the Trinamool Congress and the Shiv Sena may also support the motion moved by the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and the YSR Congress Party.
These announcements of support came on Sunday soon after the TDP said it's quitting the NDA over unhappiness at Andhra Pradesh not being given special status. The TDP had planned to move the no-confidence motion today in the Lok Sabha, but around noon, the Speaker adjourned the House until Monday.
The support of several opposition parties for the no-trust motion means it will be more than comfortably accepted as it will have the support of at least 50 members of Parliament (MPs) in the House, which is a minimum requirement. The no-trust move will be the first such move during the tenure of this NDA government. The Congress has 48 MPs in the Lok Sabha, the AIADMK has 37, the TDP has 16, the YSR Congress and the CPI (M) have nine MPs each, and the AIMIM has one MP. The CPI (M) said the Centre's "all-round failure" needs to be highlighted." CPI (M) supports the no-confidence motion being brought against the BJP government. Its betrayal of the promise of special status for Andhra Pradesh is inexcusable. Its all-round failure and evasion of parliamentary accountability needs to be highlighted," said senior CPI (M) leader Sitaram Yechury. How can Modi surive the no-confidence motion? Only God can help him and the BJP led NDA Government has left everything to God and to the common sense of the MPs. Well MPS from Jammu and Kashmir could have lent their support to Modi. But the situation is ticklish. The Lok Sabha has six constituencies from Jammu and Kashmir. Out of this the PDP MP, Hameed Qarra had resigned and Dr Farooq Abdullah was elected to the Lok Sabha. And the Anantnag Lok Sabha constituency is vacant following elevation of Mehbooba Mufti, who had been elected to the Lok Sabha in 2014,as the Chief Minister. This way three Lok Sabha seats from the region of Jammu and one BJP from Ladakh constit uency may support Modi led Government. And since PDP-BJP coalition Government is in power in Jammu and Kashmir one seat of Baramulla, wherefrom Muzaffar Hussain Beigh, was elected is bound to vote for Modi led NDA Government. Hence out of six Lok Sabha seats four are going to poll for Modi led NDA Government. But the BJP led NDA Government is confident on its survival when the motion of no-confidence was put to vote Ultimately the Shiv Sena and other MPs from the BJP ruled states may lend support to Modi and that is the only way for Prime Minister to survive. If no-confidence motion is accepted by the Lok Sabha the fall in the BJP led Government may boost the chances of its win during the Lok Sabha elections next year and the fence sitters are worried about it.
