Deport Rohingyas or pull out from coalition: Jammu tells BJP
3/25/2018 11:42:41 PM
Early Times Report
Jammu, Mar 25: The issue of illegal Rohingya migrants in Jammu has snowballed into a major controversy as Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has failed to convince its coalition partner Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that people of Jammu want them out of the city.
An analyst while talking to Early Times said, "BJP despite being an equal partner in the ruling coalition has failed to take a firm stand over the issue of deportation of Rohingyas from the Jammu city."
He said, "PDP is openly supporting the Rohingyas to keep its vote bank intact. On the other hand BJP has failed to live upto the expectations of the people of Jammu region, who want to see Rohingyas out, especially after the terror attack at Sunjwan Military Station in Jammu."
A Kashmir watcher said, "Whenever BJP leaders get a chance they indulge in lip service to befool the people of Jammu. On the other hand they cannot convince their coalition partner PDP."
He said, "It looks like that they don't want to annoy the Kashmir centric leadership. They (BJP leaders) are making big compromises for remaining in power."
An observer said, "Issue of Rohingyas touches the skin of a common man in Jammu. As most of the Jammu people believe that Rohingyas are a threat to peace and if their number keeps on swelling it can lead to a big crisis."
He said, "BJP leaders should realize that lip service won't help their cause and they cannot hoodwink the people anymore. If they fail to take a stand they day is not far when they would see people out on streets protesting against their failed policies."
"The revelations about the leader of BJP Mahila Morcha giving her land to settle the Rohingyas has exposed the double talk of BJP leaders. They stand exposed," the observer added.
An official who wished not to be named said, "We cannot even touch the Rohingya migrants as we have got the directions from the top to stay away from them. If we get the orders we can deport them within a few days."
He said, "There are no militancy related cases registered against them but they are involved in flesh trade, drug smuggling and other illicit activities. A few FIRs too have been registered against these illegal migrants for their involvement in criminal activities."
The official said, "With each passing day the number of Rohingya migrants is swelling. We are providing constant feedback to the concerned agencies."
A Jammu based businessman said, "BJP leaders are just playing the politics over the issue and seem least bothered about the sentiments of Jammu people, who believe that these illegal migrants could become a source of big trouble in the peaceful Jammu city."
He said, "BJP leaders should tell PDP clearly that if it doesn't allow deportation of migrants from Jammu the saffron party would pull out from the coalition."
