Early Times Report Jammu, Mar 25: "If a man fails to honour the rivers, he shall not gain the life from them", a famous saying, which is the ultimate aim of a group of volunteers who worked for Save river Tawi campaign under the banner of DISHA. They have been continuously putting in their efforts over the years to keep the River Tawi clean, which is the only source of water supply in Jammu city. This organisation has dedicated itself to make river Tawi pollution free. This year again DISHA organised two day "Save River Tawi Campaign" with the mission of ZERO WASTE. During the SAVE River Tawi Campaign volunteers of DISHA collected all the religious items, both Bio-Degradable and Non Biodegradable, from the devotees from 8am to 8pm at "Har Ki Poudi" temple and segregated it into dry waste and wet waste. Dry waste like polythene and plastic items will be recycled and wet waste will be converted into compost. Volunteers of DISHA assured the devotees that nothing will be handed over to JMC for dumping. All the material collected will be either recycled or processed in environment friendly manner. The volunteers also spread the message of Refusing, Reducing, and Reusing the polythene to make the environment clean and green. During the campaign volunteers converted the collected flowers and leaves into compost using Bin composting technique under the guidance of Mrs. Anuradha Sharma, Scientist SPCB. Devotees appreciated the volunteers for taking imitative and blessed them by applauding their concerns.The campaign with the help and support of devotees was a success. The Volunteers who were present in the campaign were Neha, Sarika, Bhanu Priya, Priyanka Ganjoo, Pratibha, Aman, Sushmita, Priyanka, Ganesh, Vijay, Bikram, Naresh, Mubarakh Ali, Ajay, Shivam, Yogesh, Ashwini, Aqib, Shabaz, Sanjeev, Divyansh, Surya, Nimit and Anil. |
