Successful treatment of pancreatic diseases available at SMVD Narayana' | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Mar 28: Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Narayana Super Speciality hospital administration has said that three out of several cases of pancreatic diseases were successfully treated in last two years. According to press release, Dr. Manoj Gupta said, "Our goal at SMVDNSH is to provide a place where patients with pancreatic diseases can receive state-of-the-art interdisciplinary care. We are a large volume centre for pancreatic surgeries. We perform all pancreatic surgical procedures that are affordable with results that are among the best." Patients who were successfully treated and given new lease of life, were also present at the conference. First case was of acute necrotizing pancreatitis: 30 yrs. old male admitted with necrotizing pancreatitis -an extreme case of acute pancreatitis. It develops when part of pancreatic tissues dies. Patient was in critical condition. Pancreatic necrosectomy was performed and the patient recovered gradually in the postoperative period and is doing well and symptom free after 8 months. The second case was of chronic Pancreatitis: 28 yrs. old male, diagnosed with chronic pancreatitis with multiple stones in pancreatic duct. After initial assessment, patient underwent Longitudinal pancreatojejunostomy (The operation involves creating a longitudinal incision along the pancreas while the main pancreatic duct is filleted open longitudinally from the head of the organ to its tail. The duct and pancreas are then attached to a loop of the small intestine) and removal of pancreatic duct stones. The postoperative period was uneventful, and patient was discharged on 5th postoperative day. Patient is doing well after 2 months follow up. Third case was of Cancer of Pancreas :32 yrs. old male patient diagnosed with obstructive jaundice, pain and fever. Investigations revealed tumour in the head of pancreas causing obstruction to common bile duct leading to jaundice. A whipple surgery was performed, whipple surgery is a complex operation to remove the head of the pancreas, the first part of the small intestine (duodenum), the gallbladder and the bile duct. The Whipple procedure is used to treat tumors and other disorders of the pancreas, intestine and bile duct. It is the most often used surgery to treat pancreatic cancer that's confined to the head of the pancreas. The Whipple procedure is a difficult and demanding operation and can have serious risks. However, this surgery is often lifesaving, particularly for people with cancer. Post-operative period was uneventful, and patient was discharged on 6th post-operative day. After 3 months follow up patient doing well and is symptom free. |
