Manpower shortage prevents BSNL to connect JK
531 post of executive cadre vacant
4/16/2018 10:25:47 PM
Early Times Report
Jammu, Apr 16: Severe staff dearth is preventing the BSNL to connect J&K, as the state-run telecom operator has around 550 posts for various executive cadre vacant.
Official data available with Early Times reveals there are several hundred posts of Executive Cadre, including Sub Divisional Engineer (Telecom), Account Officer, Junior Telecom Officer, Junior Telecom Officer (Civil), Junior Account Officer and Chief Account Officer vacant.
Presently, 84 posts Sub Divisional Engineer (Telecom), 10 Account Officer, 346 Junior Telecom Officer, 12 Junior Telecom Officer (Civil), 39 Junior Account Officer, 8 Chief Account Officer are vacant for a long time", the data reveals.
Other vital posts, apart from the above mentioned, are also vacant that prevents BSNL to compete with the rivals.
"In electrical wing of the Corporation, three posts of Sub Divisional Engineer (electrical), one post of Sub Divisional Engineer (civil), nine of posts of Junior Telecom Officer (electrical), four post of Executive Engineer (Civil) and one important post of Deputy General Manager (Finance), three posts of General Manager, one post of PGM/ GM level of accounts' cadre have not been filled since long", the data reveals.
A senior official of BSNL, wishing not be named, said under huge dearth of staff, how can the corporation compete with a giant like Jio, which monopolised the entire market with a short span of two years.
"Unfortunately, our government (Union) instead of providing remedy to ailing its own telecom company, is promoting Jio. Even many private telecom service provider companies have vanished from the scene", he said and added it is time government should take care of BSNL, apart from providing sufficient funds for infrastructure, to fill vacant posts, and it is also need of hour to create more posts rather than engaging manpower on need and requirement basis on the existing post or vacant post.
Officials further alleged that under a well planned conspiracy, the BSNL is deliberately keeping these posts vacant to benefit private players.
