Govt 'going back' on 7th pay commission promise | Employees' unions mulling to hit streets | |
Early Times Report Jammu, Apr 16: Delay in implementation of the already announced 7th pay commission for the state government employees has fuelled speculations about whether government intends to fulfil its commitment or wants the employees to hit the streets. As per the insiders, several delegations of the government employees' union held back to back meetings with the government, informing it that if there is no forward movement witnessed vis-à-vis the implementation of the 7th pay commission, the employees would have no alternative but to take to streets. Meanwhile, there hasn't been any assurance given by the government over the implementation of the pay hike, leaving the entire dispensation into tizzy. Technically, an announcement should have been made long ago as the salary bills for the month of April are to be drafted by this April 20. "The government has assured that the pay hike in the state will be implemented with effect from April 2018. But so far no notification has been issued, and it is now highly impossible to have a 7th pay commission implemented in the state by the end of this month," says an official. Earlier, Early Times had quoted an official saying that there were least chances that the formal orders would be issued by the Finance department in April. However, as things are turning entangling for the officials, the process is getting delayed with each passing day. "No matter how hard one would try, it is always difficult to take on board each and every suggestion. There are efforts being laid to cover maximum possible ground ahead of announcing the implementation of the pay hike for the state government employees. Till then, the deliberations would only prolong," said an official. Last month, a threadbare discussion was held for the issuance of relevant SRO regarding the implementation of 7th pay commission recommendations. The minister incharge of the Finance department was informed that arrangements were made for implementing the 7th Pay Commission for state government employees and pensioners in the state. However, more than half a month has been passed since then with no forward movement witnessed so far. As per reports there were already directions passed to the concerned officers to make it effective in the next month as per the commitment made by the Jammu and Kashmir government in budget 2018-19. The meeting was attended by the Principal Secretary Finance, Navin Kumar Choudhary, and other senior officers of the Finance Department. Earlier the minister convened a meeting to review the functioning of Excise department, which was attended by Principal Secretary Finance, Navin Kumar Choudhary, Excise Commissioner, DC Excise and other officers of the department. During the meeting, the minister was apprised about the working of the department and revenue collected at toll entries and also discussed the targets of the department set for the next financial year and the achievements made during the current financial year |
