Jammu, Apr 16: The five days national theatre festival 'Theatre Carnival', inaugurated here today at Abhinav Theatre Jammu with an impressive performance of the dogri play 'Agni Barkha' directed by Abhishek Bharti. According to press release, Sougat Biswas IAS, Transport Comissioner was the Chief Guest whereas Aziz Hajini, Secretary, Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art ,Culture & languages was the guest of Honour. Ayash Arif Senior Producer and Director and Harinder Mahajan, Editor in Chief of Himalayan Mail were the special guests on the occasion. Organised by Natraj Natya Kunj, Cultural Society Jammu the festival is supported by Ministry of Culture Govt. of India, North Zone Cultural Centre, Haryana Kala Parishad, Chandigarh, Jammu & Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture & languages. Speaking on the occasion, Sougat Biswas lauded the efforts of the group by organizing national theatre festival in Jammu. The play is a theatrical adaptation of India's foremost Playwright Girish Karnad's play "The Fire and The Rain" by Kumar A 'Bharti'. This is the first time when any of Girish Karnad's Play is adapted into Dogri Language. Basically drawn from Aranya Parava of the Mahabharata, this moral parable is redefined and recreated by a creative person with profound insight into an epic tale which reflects modern sensibility. The Play designed along with elements of ingenious cultural tradition, not only provided a classical setting to the production but also enliven the well crafted theatrical situations and moments. Cleaver use of element of mime, rhythmic body movements, groupings with a unique mix of folk and classical background music which stood out for chanting of Sanskrit shlokas, alaaps as well as crescendos, drum beats-all emerged as impressive tools of the eclectic theatre language adapted for the play. |
