Jammu, Apr 16: Commodore DS Sodhi, NM (Retd) accompanied by Mehak Kaur Sodhi today highlighted several issues which are threatening the social fabric of our society. Evil practices like demand and acceptance of the most deep rooted evil, dowry and domestic violence are matters of serious concern, Commodore Sodhi said. Similarly, female infanticide and discrimination towards a girl child are the most shameful social evils prevalent even now in India. He brought out that globally, the victims of domestic violence are overwhelmingly women. Saints and social reformers like Saint Kabir, Raja Rammohan Roy, Maharishi Dayanand, Guru Nanak Dev Ji, Guru Amardas and many others fought against such evils. Jawahar Lal Nehru our first Prime Minister had said "You can tell the condition of the Nation by looking at the status of its Women". He criticized the contradictory statements given by Chairman Women's commission regarding the prioratization of cases. He requested NGOs, other organizations as well as Rotary Clubs of Jammu and Kashmir to come forward and work towards spreading awareness for eradication of the malaise of crimes against women and other social evils. |
