| One day workshop for Safai Karamcharis held | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Apr 30: In order to create awareness about scientific solid waste management among the safai karamcharis of Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC), a one day workshop was organized in Srinagar on Monday for safai karamcharis from 4 wards of SMC
The field staff of Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) from four wards of North Srinagar city (10, 11, 12 and 13) participated in the workshop at Habak area of Srinagar. The workshop was organized by Envo Saviours which is the Information Education and Communication (IEC) partner of SMC. Around 100 Safai Karamcharis, sanitation inspectors, sanitation supervisors, and sanitation officers participated in the workshop.
Experts during the workshop stressed upon the sanitation staff of SMC to understand the concept of Solid Waste Management Rules 2016 (SWM Rules) wherein waste is only to be lifted in a segregated manner and not at all to be mixed together.
Project Manager Envo Saviours said that SMC staff and IEC partners have to reach out at each and every household in Srinagar city and that is the only way out now as only landfill site in Srinagar is almost filled completely. We have to handhold people and show them how to segregate the biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste generated in residential and commercial establishments. It will be stressed upon the residents who have enough land to start composting organic waste in the kitchen gardens so that we reduce the load of garbage to Achan landfill site.
Mudassir Banday Chief Sanitation Officer (CSO) SMC , Issar Ahmad Zonal Sanitation Officer SMC represented the SMC during the workshop. They assured to support the programme with missionary zeal. |
