Janipur's oldest park lies in shambles, MLA unconcerned | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Apr 30: One of city's oldest parks, located at old Janipur, which was constructed during the tenure of then Governor Jagmohan, has deteriorated today presents a picture of neglect and apathy of the concerned department and more so of the MLA , who never cared to visit the area. It is disheartening to note that while the parks located near the residential houses of high officers and politicians are well kept, those in the less affluent localities are abandoned and neglected. This park in Janipur presents a similar picture as it looks more like an abandoned piece of land then a public park. The toilets constructed in the corner of the park are filthy and stinking, lights are defunct and there is not maintenance of flower beds and grass at all. Slamming the attitude of concerned MLA, Shiv Ram, 84 years old, resident of old Janipur alleged that since he became MLA never came here to take stock of the plight of the people. "Despite meeting the MLA and apprising him about the condition of the park, nothing has been done till date",Ram regretted. Another resident of the area Mohan Lal said people love to come into the open during the evenings, but the park in such dilapidated condition, that people want to stay away from this place. "There is no caretaker or gardener for the park for last many years and condition of the park is deteriorating day by day but no one has made sincere efforts to address this issue, "a local Jagdish SIngh said. Mohan Lal Sharma, another resident of the area said, "Instead of providing better environment to the residents, it has become a health hazard". |
