Early Times Report
Jammu, Apr 30: BJP has squandered yet another opportunity to win back the empathy of the people of Jammu region by failing to give any message to its constituency through its rejig, which came at a crucial point in its political excursion in J&K and succeeded Rassana incident which invited international infamy.
Political watchers believe that the opportunity should have been availed by the party leadership to send an eloquent message to its rank and file and also to the people of Jammu, who have been disgruntled with the BJP due to its alleged underperformance and its inability to safeguard the vital interests and uphold aspirations of this region during nearly four years of its power sharing with the PDP.
"Party could have done much more than the induction of few new faces to give representation to the unrepresented areas. This was a great opportunity to win back hearts" said Surinder Nagpal, a political worker. By swapping Dy Chief Minister and the Speaker, the leadership has only assuaged the dented egos as both these senior leaders were not seeing eye to eye over issues of protocol. By dropping the only woman Minister, the party has not sent an encouraging message to the women folk, eventhough several others who faced similar allegations of underperformance, corruption and neglect of the party cadre have not been touched.
Interestingly, while two ministers were asked to resign for participating in a rally held in favour of the accused of the Rasana incident, two MLAs who accompanied them were inducted in the Council of Ministers. "BJP is now bereft of any powerful voice in the state Cabinet that it would need to counter the PDP on issues of Jammu's concern" Nagpal added.
Sources in the party divulge that a Cabinet Minister belonging to SC community has been dropped as he was constantly been targeted by the coalition partner PDP for underperformance. PDP wanted the vital health department to perform better, especially in the valley. Sources also divulge that during the extended visit of Party president Amit Shah and Sangh leaders to the state, the party's rank and file had brought to their notice that certain ministers were not working according to the vision of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and had even cited instances of their impropriety, but they have not been touched. "Many of our Ministers have been inebriated by power and are continuously neglecting the party workers and office bearers. The matter was brought to the notice of the leadership and we hoped that those ministers shall be replaced in this reshuffle, but we are pained to see that they have not been touched" said a worker, questioning the essence of the entire exercise.
Meanwhile the rejig has left many a strong aspirants heartbroken. These include the likes of MLA Jammu East Rajesh Gupta, former Minister and MLA Marh Sukhnandan Choudhary and MLA Kalakote Ravinder Raina.
