HC seeks jail visit reports by district session judges | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, May 3: The State High Court today directed the Registrar General to ensure that explanation was obtained from District Judges for not submitting the reports regarding to various jails across the state. Hearing a Public Interest Litigation, a Division Bench of Justices Mohammad Yaqoob Mir and Ali Mohammad Magrey directed the Registrar General to seek the explanation from district judges who have not submitted the jail visit reports regarding the condition of various jails across the state. Court meantime directed all the principal district judges across the state to visit the jails of their jurisdictions and submit the report by or before next date of hearing without fail. It is only district judges of Srinagar, Jammu, Ganderbal and Reasi have filed their visiting reports which the court took on record. The Court directed the Registrar General to seek explanation from principal district judges who have not complied with the directions of the court. All the district judges are under command to visit the jails of their respective jurisdiction after every two months. Directions were already issued to authorities to ensure that the inmates of the jail who are facing trial in different courts are produced before the court whenever production is directed by the trial court. |
