Early Times Report

JAMMU, May 3:Kashmiri migrants living in the Government allotted two room tenements at Jagti (Nagrota) have been suffering in one way or the other at the hands of Relief Organization right from the inception of the so called Kashmiri migrant mini township in year 2011.
Firstly there was power crisis at the beginning despite full allotment of funds to meet the power expenditure under SRE head by the Central Government only an 8 hour power supply was given to the camp every day that too in piece meals informed social activist Sunil Pandita while talking to EarlyTimes.
Later on going through several phases the incumbent Relief Commissioner, was apprised of the problem who took the matter at relevant fora and got the problem solved.
Sunil said the electric fitting of buildings has not beeen done properly as most of the buildings lack proper earthing which was not a serious threat to precious lives of inmates only but also a cause of damages to the electric gadgets used for domestic purposes in each and every household, he addad
He said the Jagti camp has water crisis too.The water supply to the camp is being lifted from river Tawi which remains sub merged during the rainy season for days together and residents face tremendous hardships during that point of time besides many house holds dug their own tubewells near their building Sunil added.
The main and formost problem of residents of Jagti quarters is leakages and cracks developed in all the buildings and in some cases it seems that any portion of any building may collapse next moment.
The authorities seems to be in slumber perhaps waiting for some unfortunate incident to happen so that they can be able to take so called "official action" maintained Sunil, adding a number of times the matter has been brought into the notice of men at helms but our pleas went unheard. If somehow some small works were done the yard stick of those works was purely based on pick and choose of blue eyed beneficiaries to show it on papers only and grab the budget money he added.
As on today the condition of Jagti migrants quarters is that there is cent percent leakages in the buildings particularly ceilings , washrooms and kitchens and the condition of inner and outer walls is beyond to explain said an elderly Kashmiri migrant Somnath on the condition of anonymity , adding the Government has been sending only surveyors who note down on notebooks but to do some practical work no body turns back and we continue to suffer since years together, he added.
