Jammu and Kashmir Legislative assembly was adjourned for half an hour after the opposition raised questions over the notification issued to elect the speaker.
The government had called a special session of the assembly today for the speaker’s election.
Deputy speaker Nazir Ahmad Gurezi adjourned the assembly for half an hour after the opposition demanded that the form of Nirmal Singh should be rejected.
“The house is divided over the election of the speaker,” he said, adding that the speaker was always elected unanimously. “So there is a need to build consensus first.”
Earlier, opposition parties claimed that Nirmal Singh had submitted his form the post of speaker before the issue of the notification for the post.
