Early Times Report Katra, June 18: From where the footprints of religious essence are taken back home by the surging crowd of devotees drawn from all over India, the holy town of Katra is facing acute shortage of water, courtesy mismanagement of PHE department and nonchalance of the district administration Reasi. The pilgrimage to holy town touches nearly 1 crore every year, but the irony is that the base camp Katra sans regular PHE water supply putting pilgrims to great hardships. Not a single tap of PHE exists in the town and pilgrims are forced to purchase water, thanks to a nexus being run by the department and the business class of the Katra. Nearly 20000 bottles are daily sold in Katra town which gives an insight into the magnitude of business of the drinking water which flourishes because of the connivance of the PHE officials. " Not finding a single PHE tap in the area , pilgrims are left with no option but to shell a Rs 20 note to purchase a liter full of water which is insufficient for an individual also to quench his thirst ," said a pilgrim who was looking out for a second mineral water bottle water finishing the first one. People allege that District Commissioner Reasi knows the hardships being extended to pilgrims but he too has not taken any cognizance of the matter. |
