Children engaged to remove dangerous Parthenium weed bare handed
Criminal insensitivity!

Early Times Report
kathua, June 18: The insensitive members of Nehru Yuva Kendra (NYC) Kathua on Monday put some gullible children at risk, during a so called sensitization drive, when they engaged them to remove dangerous Parthenium weed barehanded.
The photographs of the so called sensitization drive were uploaded on the social networking sites by District Youth Coordinator NYC Kathua along with text. The text reads, "NYK Kathua, under Swatch Bharat Summer Internship programme, various Youth clubs launched cleanliness drive in their village to disseminate message of cleanliness and ODF".
But the photographs uploaded by District Coordinator speak volumes about insensitivity of the members as well as District Coordinator. Small children were seen with sickles in their hands and were cutting the Parthenium week with naked hands.
Most of the people are aware of the health hazards of the weed. According to experts, the pollen grains, airborne dried plant parts and roots of parthenium weed cause various allergies like contact dermatitis, hay fever, asthma, and bronchitis in human beings. Moreover, they also claimed that the pollens of parthenium caused asthma (allergic bronchitis), especially in children playing outdoors and in adults and old-age persons. "Contact of plant with the body causes dermatitis and the spread of the problem all over the body causes great discomfort", they suggest.
But as per the photographs, the children were not given any gloves and they were found uprooting the harmful weed with naked hands. "These NGOs are more concerned about their publicity than the actual purpose of the campaigns. Most of their members are least bothered about the actual purpose of the campaigns", an insider said, adding that they tried to garner publicity for their personal benefits and they have nothing to do with Swatchta Abhiyaan.
"The senior functionaries of the NYC must take cognizance of the matter and advice its functionaries to take special care of these sensitivities while organizing such drives", a local said.
