Separatist among 9 booked for anti-national rally | | | Asif Iqbal Naik

Kishtwar, June 19: The Kishtwar police on Tuesday booked nine people in connection with anti-national protests held on the Eid-ul-Fitr on Saturday. As per the copies of two FIRs registered by Kishtwar police available with Early Times, a top separatist leader Abdul Qayoom Mattoo, of Umar Mohallah, Kishtwar, was booked along with eight other persons in age group to 18-22 years in these two FIRs. In first FIR (165/2018) eight youths were booked under the Unlawful Activities Act for raising anti-India, pro-azadi, pro-militants and pro-Pakistan slogans during the Eid procession on Saturday last. These activities are "detrimental to the peace and tranquillity in the Kishtwar district, beside could have the potential to destabilise the communal harmony and brotherhood." The FIR was registered at the instance of police personnel on duty and the Dakat forwarded by the police post Hidyal. The inquiry of the case has been entrusted to Deputy SP Kishtwar. In another FIR (166/2018) registered with the approval of Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar, it has been reported that while offering Eid nimaz at Chowgan ground Kishtwar, the separatist leader Abdul Qayoom Mattoo has instigated the youths by his inflammatory speech as thousands of people had gathered for Eid prayers. Mattoo is also accused of issuing provocative speeches against the security forces. It is further stated that the Hurriyat leader tried to spread the enmity among the people towards the government of Jammu and Kashmir, union of India and has created psychosis and insecurity in the minds of general public, Hindu community and other peace loving people of Kishtwar town. Meanwhile, sources told Early Times that Kishtwar police has yet to take a final call for registration of FIR for the Wasser incident where some miscreants stopped the people coming towards Eid and allegedly hurled abuses on them. The sources said that for this Kishtwar police has left FIR No. 164 slot open. Imam Jamia Masjid Kishtwar also called on SHO Kishtwar few days ago and had threatened protest in case Kishtwar police didn't register an FIR against those involved in the said case. |
