Govt insensitive to rape crimes by not establishing fast track courts
FAST TRACK TRIALS FOR RAPE CASES
6/19/2018 11:22:41 PM
Early Times Report
Jammu, June 19: The delay in disposal of rape cases due to huge pendency in various courts has led to increase in rapes across the state. The government which is supposed to take serious note of the issue by taking various measures like establishing fast track courts has failed to do anything.
Manisha Kumari, a teacher by profession, while talking to Early Times vociferously endorsed setting up of fast track trials in rape cases. "In order to provide justice to the rape victims, the case in the courts should be taken up on fast track trials pattern so that the victims could get justice in shortest possible time which will ultimately help her to bring herself back to the normal life," Kumari asserted.
She said it is very unfortunate that there are no fast track courts in the state which clearly indicates how non-serious the government is about such heinous crime. Early disposal of rape cases will set a right precedence to curb this crime in the society and delay in the disposal of cases due to huge pendency indirectly encourages the accused, she said.
Pooja Devi, a housewife said that rapes shatter women's spirit and makes their life unbearable to live and the dreadful memories of the incident continue to haunt them in their entire life. At many occasions the delay in disposal of rape cases in courts to provide the justice to victim give birth to suicidal tendencies among the victims. For that fast track trials in the rape cases are must. "We consider ourselves living in civilized society but how can we justify this claim when thousands of such cases are pending in various courts due to shortage judges," she lamented.
Deepak, a businessman said: "Government should be ashamed of itself that despite spurt in the rape cases, it has failed to take up this serious issue so far by not establishing fast track court for fast trials of rape cases which has raised question mark on our society and system also which has literally failed to save modesty of fairer sex. That is why it has become need of the hour that fast track trial should be held in rape cases and accused should be given stringent punishment so that a strong message should go in public," he said.
