Prof Gupta terms Soz' statement as misleading, motivated | | | Early Times Report Jammu, July 2: The former Union Minister Prof. Chaman Lal Gupta has termed such statements that Sardar Patel was not interested in Kashmir as misleading and motivated to cover up the blunders and wrongs of Jawahar Lal Nehru but to keep his friend Sheikh Mohd Abdullah in good humour although the Sheikh had been an enigma changing his antics. In a statement here today, Prof. Gupta expressed surprise over the recent statements of Prof. Saifuddin Soz and said it wonders that what has necessitated this NC turned Congressman to make such controversial writing at this late stage. It is a matter of soul searching. He said that it is well known fact that besides other problems, the Maharaja of the State, Hari Singh despite being a great nationalist and secular, was reluctant to sign the Instrument of Accession. But it was Sardar Patel, the incharge of the States as being the Home Minister, had managed the Srinagar visit of the RSS Chief, Guru Golwalker, to tell the Maharaja that Nehru is not entire India. And Guru ji had visited Srinagar during third week of October 1947 and met with the Maharaja who signed the Instrument of Accession on October 26, 1947. It was an irony that after Maharaja Hari Singh, who gave legal sanctity to J&K being an integral part of India, was put in exile by the Nehru to appease the Sheikh. |
