Imran follows his uncle's footsteps, resigns from PDP | | | Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, July 2: Former PDP Minister Imran Raza Ansari Monday formally made announcement for resignation from the party. A day after PDP MLA Abid Ansari criticized the party, his nephew and former PDP minister Imran Raza Ansari Monday took on Mehbooba Mufti for bringing relatives into the party and in government at the top posts while sidelining the deserving ones. He said that Mehbooba's incompetence led to fall of the PDP-BJP government. "We told Mehbooba long ago about black sheep in the party. The PDP has turned into Family Democratic Party," Ansari, the former IT and Higher Education Minister said. "These few people have hijacked the party. You see only uncle, brother, or cousin is taking decisions" he said adding that he decided to walk out of the party several times in the past. He said that if elections are held, he would contest the polls. "People are with me. If I found any party where there is no family rule, I will join that," he said. He said that BJP supported the coalition government wholeheartedly and it was because of their endeavors that such a huge chunk of money was released to state for various developmental activities. Earlier, in his speech on Sunday, Abid, Imran's uncle was critical of DP chief Mehbooba Mufti. "They (PDP founders) brought their relatives in the government and assigned them top positions in the party, while sidelining the deserving ones. Sartaj Madni, Naeem Akhtar, and Peerzada Mansoor are taking all decisions. Even Mehbooba brought her brother (a cinematographer) into the cabinet," he said. Abid is among the 10 PDP MLAs who met Mehbooba Mufti few days before the BJP pulled out from the coalition. Sources said that there are at least seven disgruntled PDP MLAs, who are unhappy with the party and are mulling to leave the party. Among the disgruntled MLAs, who were part of the meeting included MLA Rafiabad Yawar Mir, MLA Wachi Aijaz Ahmad Mir, MLA Shopian Mohammad Yousuf Bhat, MLA Kokernag Abdul Rahim Rather, MLA Tral Mushtaq Ahmad Shah, and MLA Noorabad Abdul Majeed Padroo. In the meeting, sources said that they expressed displeasure over being ignored on important policy matters and decisions. "We are the ones who bore the brunt of this alliance by suffering mentally as well as emotionally. Our families and workers are scared even to walk in day light," one of the MLAs had said. The resignation of Abid and few more would spoil the efforts of the PDP-Congress to form the government. The PDP has 28 MLAs while the Congress has 12 MLAs. They require at least 44 MLAs to form the government. |
