5 far-flung ISM dispensaries in Kathua have no doctors
7/2/2018 10:49:02 PM
Early Times Report
Jammu, July 2: Five Indian System of Medicine (ISM) dispensaries located in far flung areas of district Kathua have no Medical Officer (MO) to run the business.
Sources in department informed Early Times that there were five dispensaries with no Medical officers since long including village Dharmahanpur's dispensary of block Basholi, Bhander of block Bani, one dispensary situated in village Kotepunnu of Hiranagar Block and two dispensaries of block Billawar i,e Aglidhar and Nagrota pretya.
Locals said that these dispensaries were established in the villages by the health department years back and considered to be life line for the poor people of villages but due to non availability of sufficient manpower, medicine and infrastructure, the villagers are being forced to visit tehsil level Primary Health Centre (PHCs) or Sub district hospital to get treatment.
They alleged that however, these villages' dispensaries have also served thousands of people of adjoining villages but due to nonchalant attitude of department concerned to depute Medical officers here, forcing gullible people to get treatment from the paramedical staff which were deputed there to assist Medical officers.
Tilak Raj, a resident of village Korepunnu said that in absence of doctor in village dispensary, most of patients of this village and its adjoining villages visit either Marheen Public Health Centre or Sub district Hospital of Hiranagar which at nearly 30 Km distance and very costly for poor people.
A retired doctor from ISM department while wishing anonymity said that the purpose behind establishing dispensaries at village level has been defeated because of non availability of specialist doctors. If the department has transferred the doctors to these far-flung dispensaries, they hesitate to join there or get modified their order due to his/her political proximity which leaves the poor patients to fend for themselves.
