Early Times Report
RAJOURI, July 17: Illegal extraction of river bed material in Rajouri is on since years and many people have made fortunes.
The office of the district Mineral Officer is least bothered and the lackadaisical attitude of the official concerned has encouraged many more individuals and tractor owners to enter this trade by adopting illegal measures in nexus with concerned officials.
The illegal extraction of river beds for sand and 'bajri, in and around Rajouri town and in other parts of the district has put at high risk the aquatic life besides expected damages to bridges and pumping houses (bore wells)of PHE department.
Due to frequent extraction of river beds the river flow has been diverted towards these water pumping stations and agricultural land.
It is very necessary to save the 'aquatic life', bridges, agriculture land and PHE's infrastructure and for that stringent action are required to be taken against those involved in the illegal extraction of the river beds.
As the matter is of serious nature, the newly appointed DDC Rajouri, MA Asad has convened a meeting of the concerned officials, including District Mineral Officer, Exective Engineers of I&FC (Nowshera & Rajouri divisions) along with AEEs and JEs.
"In the meeting it was decided to take stern action against those individuals and tractor owners engaged in illegal extraction. Several remedial measures were also discussed to save the aquatic life besides protection of bunds of the rivers" said District Information Officer (DIO).
A team of officers constituted will also look into the kind of illegalities in and around the embankments of the rivers, he added.
Measures for the welfare of those individuals were also discussed who are engaged in the extraction of river bed material
