Amid rebellion in PDP, Tasaduq Mufti goes aboard
7/17/2018 11:29:16 PM
Early Times Report
jammu, July 17: Even as the Peoples Democratic Party is facing a major rebellion from within the party, the Mufti family scion and PDP leader Tasaduq Mufti has gone abroad.
Sources said Tasaduq who is also the brother of the PDP President Mehbooba Mufti has "taken leave" from the politics and left for a "shooting assignment" abroad. Prior to joining politics in 2017, he was a cinematographer.
Sources said his trip abroad was already on cards that it has nothing to do with the prevalent crises in the party. But the development has drawn severe criticism from within the party circles.
"When the party is facing a major rebellion and there's a threat of breakup, he (Tasaduq) should have set his priorities right in accordance with the needs of the politics. His going abroad has sent a bad signal in the party circles," said a senior PDP leader on the condition of anonymity.
Sources said some of the senior leaders have discussed the absence of Tasaduq Mufti with Mehbooba. "He (Tasaduq) is conspicuous for his absence. This has dented our image," said a senior leader.
A minister during the previous government, Tasaduq has a long association with the film world and was also awarded for his work in movies like Omkara.
Sources said the cinematography assignment was unavoidable for Tasaduq otherwise he wouldn't have left the state at such a critical juncture.
The PDP leadership however believes that it should be priority of every member of the party to stay back in the field amid rebellion.
Pertinently, a group of senior PDP leaders have rebelled under the leadership of their party colleague Imran Reza Ansari.
Ansari, who claims to be having support of the majority of senior leaders from within the party, has openly questioned the "family raaj" within the PDP and made a scathing attack on the Muftis including Tasaduq Mufti.
The rebels have been saying that within a year of joining politics, Tasaduq was blessed with meteoric rise to the level of cabinet minister, though he was not worth it.
Meanwhile a senior PDP leader said Tasaduq Mufti was very much in contact with his colleagues and that "his physical absence from the political scene in Jammu and Kashmir doesn't make much of difference."
"He will be back soon and till then he constantly communicates with the party leadership through internet, so what is the big deal," the PDP leader said.
Despite repeated attempts Tasaduq Mufti couldn't be contacted for comments.
