JU engages faculty for DDE in violation of guidelines
VC flouts recommendation of Campus Deans
7/17/2018 11:29:52 PM
Early Times Report
jammu, July 17: The Jammu University (JU) authorities have come in for sharp criticism for violating the resolution passed during a meeting of the Campus Deans regarding engagement of contractual teaching faculty in Directorate of Distance Education (DDE).
"The matter regarding the engagement of contractual teaching faculty was taken up by the Campus Deans in their meeting on July 7, 2015, wherein it was resolved that one lecturer be engaged for enrolment of 500 candidates for PG courses in DDE and no recruitment was required for UG courses. But the JU authorities are wilfully ignoring the resolution," said sources.
Citing a RTI reply, they said three permanent teachers in the subjects of Punjabi, Economics and History were continuing in DDE despite the fact that there was no PG course in the said subjects and even enrolment for these subjects was not up to the mark.
"Total enrolment for Punjabi in undergraduate course for sessions 2016-17 and 2017-18 stood at 69 and 61 respectively. In Economics, the enrolment remained 197 and 158 respectively for 2016-17 and 2017-18. In History, the figures stood at 230 and 215 respectively for the two sessions. It speaks volume about the anarchy spread by the JU authorities with respect to obeying resolutions of Campus Deans meeting," sources said.
They also cited the engagement of contractual lecturer in Dogri for PG course which recorded enrolment figure of 182 and 175 respectively for sessions 2016-17 and 2017-18.
Sources questioned the rationale behind such arrangements by DDE authorities while setting aside the recommendation of Campus Dean in this respect. Sources demanded that all such teachers who are sitting idle in DDE be shifted to teaching departments for better utilization of their services, and the recommendations of Campus Deans be duly honoured.
The pick and choose method was being followed by the authorities at the helm of affairs in JU. Sources blamed the Vice Chancellor for deliberately indulging in such acts to settle the personal agendas. They urged the Governor to immediately intervene in the matter and order inquiry to expose the frauds been committed by the VC, Prof Ramji Dass Sharma.
