Jammu, July 22: Vice Chancellor of Sai Nath University Dr Shazad Malik, a native of Mendhar have demanded establishment of Boarder Areas Development Authorities to cater the need of development activities in these areas. According to press release, Dr. Malik as part of his visit to state, visited over two dozen border villages and interacted with hundreds of inhabitants. He requested Union Home minister and governor NN Vohra to formulate a joint team comprising officers from ministry of defence, Home and J & K Police besides other civil departments for deliberations to establish Border Areas development Authority. In his prayer to duo, the VC submitted that unlike other civil areas, the habitations near borders and LoC are totally different therefore civil authorities cannot perform the developmental activities there therefore a full fledged developmental authority under direct supervision of defence experts is required ". Explaining about cross border shelling victims, the VC said the families of the victims run from one department to another for relief and compensation and for months and years together they run from pillar to post for justice. He said a large areas of districts like Kathua, Samba, Jammu, Rajouri and Poonch of the state either share international border or LoC and often due to shelling only the civilians feel the brunt and the politicians do only lip service. "As governor have all the powers at present , therefore we appeal him to constitute BADA to cater the needs of border areas like Health, Education, Road, sanitation, bunker buildings, agriculture , civil construction and border tourism", the VC stated. |
