Now separatists, PDP, NC on same page to support Pakistan | Ek Hi Thaali Ki Chatt'e Batt'e! | | Early Times Report
Jammu, July 22: Out of power the two main regional parties in Jammu and Kashmir, the Peoples Democratic Party and the National Conference are suddenly sounding like senior separatist leader Syed Ali Geelani in their support for Pakistan. A few days after Pakistan did drama that there was a need for "demilitarization" to resolve Kashmir, from NC President Dr Farooq Abdullah to PDP's Naeem Akhter, almost every next leader from the twin regional parties, is echoing some sort of support for the neighboring country, which has actually unleashed bloodbath on Indian soil through its terror activities. In an unusual move, the PDP on July 21 welcomed the statement made by Dr Farooq Abdullah in Parliament, saying that the party hopes NC president sticks to what he has said this time about the resolution of Kashmir issue. Farooq Abdullah, referring to the situation in Jammu and Kashmir had said in the Lok Sabha during the no-confidence motion that "We want peace, you people won't like what Farooq Abdullah will say; peace won't come till we find a solution with Pakistan." In a statement, former minister and senior PDP leader Naeem Akhtar said the PDP welcomes Abdullah's change of heart and the party hopes that it wouldn't be a mere poll gimmick by the NC president. "We hope Dr Abdullah sticks to it and contributes to the resolution of Kashmir in a positive manner. It is also a high time for the central government to utilise this consensus among the political groups in Kashmir vis-a-vis the peaceful resolution of Kashmir and that the government of India should respond to this consensus at an earliest," Akhtar said. "While development of the state is important but broader political trouble has to be addressed and fixed and till then peace will remain elusive. Talks with Pakistan, Hurriyat and other stakeholders is needed and through this way only, the situation will get stabilised. It is a moral responsibility of the central government to address the issue and make peace an inseparable feature of the state," Akhtar said. The same day, when Akhter issued the statement, Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani made similar remarks. On Saturday Geelani welcomed Pakistan's statement that "demilitarization of Jammu Kashmir would lead to resolution of the Kashmir issue". He asked New Delhi to reciprocate so that Kashmir issue could be resolved. "Pakistan's statement is aimed at bringing lasting peace in South Asia and we hope that Pakistan's demilitarization offer, optimism, spirit of flexibility would be reciprocated by New Delhi to open new vistas of cooperation, resolution of all issues and particularly Kashmir issue in accordance with aspirations of people," Geelani said in a statement. |
