Jammu, July 22: 637th outdoor Tree Talk was organized in the Botanical Garden , University of Jammu. The day was organized to mark ongoing Vanmahotsava started with forest praise poetry penned by creative Poet Shyam Juneja who weaved vivid glimpses of Kashmir Biodiversity eulogizing picturesque vale with snow capped mountains ,gushing Brooks ,blooming flowers ,chirping birds and galloping Hangul of Kashmir. Director Ecology , Environment & Remote Sensing Om Prakash Vidyarthi while interacting with Tree Talk enthusiasts familiarized participants with aromatic Garlic vine with garlic like aroma ,sacred medicinal Basil diversity ,butterfly bush offering floral feast to butterflies ,colourful Blood flower with hairy seeds ,Milkweed Calotropis procera with milk in stems & flowers used in cough syrups ,Butter tree Mahua Madhuca latifolia introduced in the Botanical Garden alongwith Olea paniculata way back in 1988,Pearl beauty bush with drupes appearing like milky pearls borne during autumn with known edibility. Prof Yash Pal expert on Mushrooms detailed need for conservation of habitats at microlevel with focus on Fungal enhanced nutrition of forest trees ,without mycorhizeal association pines ,cedars,junipers cannot establish in the wilderness. Scientist Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine Jammu ,Dr Anamika Khajuria ,BDO K D Kurhan ,Patwari Sartaj Singh Ishar ,Educationist & Tree Talk enthusiast Shaily Jain ,Samvedna Sharma ,Manoj Gandotra and others also shared valuable inputs on choice of plant species while initiating planting in wastelands and available forest blanks during monsoon. |
