Addicts looting people, theft cases on rise | | | Early Times Report BUDGAM, July 29: As authorities have failed to check growing menace of drug addiction and its sale and trafficking, the drug addicts in order to meet their daily expenses are now committing thefts and loot in several areas of Kashmir. Reports from Budgam district reveal rise in the cases of theft and loot during the past one year and authorities have failed to check this growing menace . Sources told Early Times that from past one year more than dozen theft cases have been reported in several areas of Chadoora area of Budgam alone. Recently a watchman was thrashed and looted at Wathoora area by a gang of criminals allegedly local drug-addicts from Balpora , Hanjigund and Gopalpora. Details available with Early Times reveal that recently some burglars most probably drug addicts looted a poor man hailing from a remote area of Yusmarg . The said person namely Abdul Rasheed who resides in a makeshift hut at an apple orchard in Wathoora Bugaam was looted at around 11 pm on July 26th. His belongings and Rs 5000 were snatched by the masked people who threatened to kill him and his daughter if he raised an alarm. The thieves broke into his small room and then attacked Rasheed . They took away gas cylinder, gas stove, solar lantern and Rs 5000 from the watchman who has been guarding the orchard of one G M Bhat. The locals have appealed IGP Kashmir , SSP Budgam to look into these criminal activities. |
