MGNREGA employees call off 23 day old strike following Govt assurance | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, July 31: After 23 days long strike in support of the demands with regard to regularisation of services of over 4500 MGNREGA employees, beside a pay hike and other service benefits, the MGNREGA employees association today called off the strike following government assurance that they will form a draft of the policy with regard to the road map to their demands in next one month. As per the details available with Early Times, the Association submitted a written representation to the Director RDD & PR Kashmir requesting him to order for revocation of all the termination orders issued by various ACDs and Deputy Commisoner of the Kashmir Division. The Association stated that after the assurance from the secretary RDD during various rounds of talks followed by the assurance from the Advisor to the Governor, they agreed to give up the one month time to the government for framing the draft policy. Following the marathon meeting with Director RDD Srinagar, the Association decided to call off the strike after Director RDD issued the order to all Deputy Commissioners of all the 12 Districts of Kashmir Division to revoke the termination orders following the resumption of duties of the supporting staff. The Association also seeks few days time from the Department with regard to the joining of striking employees of rural areas. Speaking to Early Times, the striking employees the striking employees said that the government at first instance should increase the salaries of the MGNREGA employees added that the government should increase the existing 6% administrative charge to 10% till the government regularised their services in phased manner. |
